Vangos Pterneas and George Karakatsiotis of AUEB's Department of Informatics are the winners of the interoperability challenge of Microsoft's Imagine Cup 2011 (July 13, 2011)

Vangos Pterneas, undergraduate student of AUEB's Department of Informatics, and George Karakatsiotis, PhD student of the same Department, are the winners of the interoperability challenge of Microsoft's Imagine Cup 2011 that took place in New York City, USA, on July 13, 2011.

More than 350,000 students participated in the competition, whose final results are listed below.

Imagine Cup 2011 Winners

AUEB's students developed a system named "Touring Machine" that guides visitors in exhibition spaces by using either PCs or mobile phones.

It is worth mentioning that Vangos Pterneas and George Karakatsiotis had also won the Greek final of Microsoft's "Imagine Cup 2010".

Touring Machine uses NaturalOWL, a natural language generation system for OWL ontologies that has been developed by the Natural Language Processing Group of AUEB's Department of Informatics (seehttp://nlp.cs.aueb.gr/).
